Dumitrescu: Researches regarding
effect of modification on microstructure, macrostructure and plastic deformation capacity
of steel
Metalurgia (56) 2004, nr.5 p.5
In spite of deformation under laboratory
conditions of white cast iron blocks into thin strips, under industrial
conditions, plastic deformation of high alloy tool steels ingots represents
still a difficult problem, due to low yield, because of cracking, thermal
energy losses and low productivity. In some cases, processing of such steel
is under efficiency limits. Plastic deformation weak capacity of such steels
is duet o the existence of coarse macrostructure, with great columnar
crystals, with extension up to the ingot center. Existence of such
macrostructure is considered normal and is determined by heat dissipation
from liquid steel to atmosphere, through ingot mould walls.
The present paper aims to establish the
role of liquid steel modification on solidification process, and to establish
in which extent the natural tendence to solidification is changed. Researches
establish the strong effect of modification, having a result of pronounced
finishing of microstructure and, of course, of macrostructure, aiming to
delete the columnary zone crystals. Basically, modification can determine the
transfer of tool steel from exaggerate fragility status in to very good
plasticity status under hot conditions.

in continuous casting field, both worldwide and in romania
Metalurgia (56) 2004, nr.5, p.12
Continuous casting process represents and efficient and less polutant
technology. Romania is at present in delay as compared to developped
countries.
Some suggestions are included in present
paper regarding the extensions of continuous cast steel grades in
order to increase de competitiveness of different finished steel products:
rolled, seamless tubes and drawn products.

Bordei, Aurel Ciurea: Influence of the Deformation Degree on
the Steels Properties During Thin Slabs Rolling
Metalurgia (56) 2004, nr.5 p.27
The rolling of the thin slabs directlly from the continuous casting
compared with the classical one implies significant differences in the
structural development, firstly shown during the solidification process. The
specific processes to the thin slabs rolling directly from the continuous
casting have to be analysed and checked in order to permanently reduce the
fabrication costs and to rise the quality of the rolling products.

the economical importance of rapid steel alloying
Metalurgia (56) 2004, nr.5 p.31
Requirement for production of rapid steel with lower production costs, by
replacing expensive alloy elements with some other, cheaper, reprezents the
main argument of studies prezented in the paper.
The results the manufacturing of steel with alloy base W-Mo or Mo, which
could by allied with Si. Cutting tools base don these steel compositions were
performed, having working proprieties very closed to the classical rapid
ones.

Rapid prototyping is one of the specific technics used in concurrent
engineering. The aim of this paper is to present the principles of this
method and also its advantages in
relation with the reducing the
time-to-market for a product.
